The Adult Nationals are behind us…
- Jr. Nationals are this week, June 21-24, in Fullerton, CA.
- The WOR Championships are in July 12-15, Huntington Beach, CA.
- The World Championships are in August 5-12, in the Dominican Republic.
My Championship Team lead by Rocky Carson and Paola Longoria played extremely well at The Adult Nationals. Paola took home the coveted title of the WPRO Pro National Champion and finished year-end as #1 on the WPRO pro ranking. Rocky lost to Alvaro in a tie-breaker in the semi finals, but finished year-end as #2 on the IRT pro ranking.
Some of my amateur players followed suit and combined, brought home 12 medals. CONGRATULATIONS to Lexi York, Jack Kulju, Connor Laffey, George Brewer, Loupe Chavez, Jerry Evarts, Richelle Kulju, Brian Barberis and Dima Protchenko.
***Unfortunately Taylor Knoth (IRT year-end ranking #17) and Sharon Jackson (WPRO year-end ranking #19) were unable to attend due to college obligations…..school first.
My Jr. Championship Team and I are getting ready to head to Fullerton, CA in a few days to compete at the Jr. National Championships. Lead by Lexi York who just won the Women’s A and Elite Divisions at the Adult Nationals at the age of 14; Brad Schoperiay who finished his first full year on tour finished year-end #13 on the IRT pro ranking; Jordan Cooperrider who will be moving up to Girl’s 14 & U for the first time after winning the Girls 12 & U Jr. Nationals and World Championships last year. Some of my other junior players that will be competing will be Connor Laffey, Wayne Antone, Quade Howell, and Brain Barberis just to name a few.
Just when I thought things were going to slow down for me this summer The WOR Championships and the Adult Worlds will be coming up in July and August. Rocky will be defending his 8 WOR Championship Titles and he will be going for #9 in July…a tremendous feat.
The following month-August, BOTH Rocky and Paola will be attending the World Championships which are held every two years representing their respective countries, USA and Mexico. Rocky will be defending his 2008 and 2010 World Titles and Paola will be looking to defeat Rhonda who beat her in a tie-breaker in 2010 in Korea.
I am so proud of ALL of them for ALL the hard work, dedication and commitment my players have put forth this season…this is “Championship Racquetball” at its BEST.
